Operating in the Eastern part of Borneo, Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure (STWA) is the best locus for adventurers to embark on a magical journey to explore the exciting heartlands of Sabah. STWA aims to provide an eco-friendly experience for our intrepid guests to traverse one of the oldest jungles in the world alongside the second longest river in Malaysia.

Our principal, Mr. Johnny Lim, is the son of Datuk John Lim, one of the pioneers of eco-tourism in Sabah who founded the famous Sepilok Jungle Resort in 1995.

Built with respect for nature, the Sepilok Jungle Resort is located a mere 5 minutes' walk away from the world renowned Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre.

Following his father's footsteps, Mr. Johnny inherited the will and espouses the legacy given to him to conserve the beauty and wonder of the flora and fauna of Borneo while encouraging the need for climate change mitigation.

A graduate from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia in 2001, Mr. Johnny Lim returned to his idyllic hometown of Sandakan and decided to dedicate his life to better understand the ecology and bring about further awareness of the need for conservation of the Bornean rainforest to the world. 

Armed with the necessary qualifications and experience, Mr. Johnny Lim established Sepilok Tropical Wildlife Adventure (STWA) in 2006 to provide real adventure and nature-based tours to all guests and adventurers. Mr. Johnny Lim's management background as an accommodation provider and a localised nature tour guide has given him the ability to plan and execute itineraries that are real, authentic and memorable.

A brainchild of Mr. Johnny Lim, was the founding of the Bilit Adventure Lodge which is situated beside The Mighty Kinabatangan River, the longest river in Sabah at 560km. Bilit Adventure Lodge was set up in 2009 in Bilit Village. True to Mr. Johnny Lim's focus on eco tourism and to assist the locals, inhabitants who are interested have been given training and job opportunities in conservation and tourism.

In its conception, STWA was acting as a tour advisor for guests who were staying at Sepilok Jungle Resort. Nowadays, it has grown and is able to arrange tours not only in Sandakan but the whole of Sabah, Sarawak and West Malaysia with a special emphasis on nature and eco-tourism.
